What is Yoga?

Here will discuss the various definitions of Yoga given by greats. 
Yoga is the systematic and conscious process of elevating  oneself by calming down the mind. 

1. Yujyate Anen iti Yogah 

Union Balancing Developing Expanding 
Union -- Self with SELF

Balancing - By integration of Body Mind Intellect 
Developing Happy and Joyful Life 

Feeling of Expansion : Individual into family , Family into Society , Society into Nation , Nation into Humanity 

2. Yogah Chitta Vritti Nirodhah  - Patanjali Yoga Sutras

Ganing Mastery over mind is Yoga 
Rodh Virodh Nirodh 

Not to be enslaves by our senses. 

3 Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam - Bhagvat Gita 

Skill in action is Yoga 
Perfect and beautiful action , action in a relaxed way , attitude behind the action , choice of action based upon dharma 

4. Samatvam Yoga Uchyate 


Equanimity of Mind is Yoga . Unpurtebed state of mind in all pairs of opposite is Yoga  
Accpeting the fruit of action with Prasad Buddha 

5 . Manah Prashamanopayah Yoga ityabhidhiyate

Yoga is slowing down and expanding the mind . 

6. Swami Vevekananda :  Its is a  means of compressing ones evolution into a singe life or a few months or even a few hours of one's bodily existence. 

7. Shri Aurobindo :  All round personality Development is Yoga

  • Mental 
  • Intellectual 
  • Emotional 
  • Spiritual /Social

  • Sharpening of intellect and calming down the mind at Intellectual level. 
  • Enhancing happiness in life and equipoise at the emotional level 
manifesting the inner divinity in Man in all aspects of Life
